Schlerotherapy at Orchid Aesthetics

Sclerotherapy coming to Orchid Aesthetics….

If you have spider veins, and are seeking an effective treatment sclerotherapy is the safest and most effective treatment for spider and varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure, and involves the injection of a solution directly into the vein. While you may visit Orchid Aesthetics for a variety of anti-ageing treatments you will be pleased to find out that we are adding schlerotherapy as one of those treatments.

What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins, and involves the injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed, and the veins are no longer visible.
Sclerotherapy is a common treatment for small (spider veins) and medium size (reticular) veins, and is the preferred over laser for eliminating large spider veins and smaller varicose leg veins. Unlike a laser, the sclerosing solution additionally closes the "feeder veins" under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins in the treated area less likely. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed, and the veins are no longer visible. With this procedure, veins can be dealt with at an early stage, helping to prevent further complications.

How many treatments will I need?
You may need anywhere from one to several sclerotherapy sessions for any vein region. Depending on the type and number of veins being treated you may have one to many injections per session.

Sclerotherapy Effectiveness

Studies have shown that as many as 50%-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. Less than 10% of the people who have sclerotherapy do not respond to the injections at all. In these instances, different solutions can be tried. Although this procedure works for most patients, there are no guarantees for success.

Candidates for Sclerotherapy

Prior to sclerotherapy, you will have an initial consultation with the physician or schlerotherapist  who will decide if you're a good candidate for the procedure.
You are not eligible if you are pregnant. You can have sclerotherapy if you take birth control pills. If you have had a blood clot in the past, your eligibility will be decided on an individual basis, and will depend on the overall health of the area needing treatment as well as the reason for the clot.
Veins that are potentially usable for future heart bypass surgery will generally not be considered for sclerotherapy, unless they are already deemed unusable.

Can I resume normal activities after each treatment?
Generally, normal activities can be resumed after sclerotherapy. Medically prescribed support hose and/or bandages may need to be worn for several days to several weeks to assist in resolution of the veins. The procedure, performed in the doctor's office, usually causes only minimal discomfort, and walking is encouraged after the treatment.
Bruising and pigmentation may occur after sclerotherapy. Bruising typically disappears within 1-2 weeks. Although pigmentation almost always fades, it can last for several months.

Dysport vs. Botox...

When it comes to reducing and mitigating facial wrinkles Botox has become as ubiquitous as Kleenex in the consumer world. Botox is manufactured by Allergan, and has enjoyed it's success because there has been a lack of competition until Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009.

Though widely used in Europe for several years until it was approved in this country Dysport does use the same solution (botulinum toxin) for smoothing out forehead wrinkles, crow's feet and also for the corners of the mouth Dysport is allegedly lower in concentration than Botox of the same substance.

Dysport is often priced lower than Botox, and there is a catch. Dysport has a more likely chance of spreading because of the lower concentration of the botulinum toxin substance. It isn't known which lasts longer of the two, but Dysport will not be as effective if not injected by a trained physician because of the likelihood of spreading of the botulinum toxin. Of course any spa enthusiast from a novice to a experienced pro would like
be well equipped before they make their trip to the spa, and we see it as our responsibility to inform, and educate our clientele and those using Google about the differences of both.

It has been noted that Dysport has been effective for those patients who have not had seen desired results with Botox. This may because their facial muscles have taken better to the Dysport injection, and it's concentration. The side effects of both Dysport and Botox are similar may be temporary redness and soreness at the injection site(s). This often disapates in under an hour.

There has also been a notable increase in the usage of both Dysport and Botox by Dr.s in the past few years, and many of them do not have the proper training in aesthetics by schools and institutes that conduct aesthetic training. Unfortunately the results widely vary given this fact, and Dr. Kerns is recognized by both Allergan and Medicis (the maker of Dysport) as an affiliated partner. She also has licenses in cosmetic training and laser procedures. She takes the proper time with any procedure, and you receive the results that you want. She is always available for a followup appointment if needed.

Orchid Aesthetics Fat Transfer system

Many people may not be aware that there is a safe and effective system which can be longer lasting than more traditional facial fillers. While there are many procedures on the market to reduce excess fat and cellulite few offer a lasting and effective treatment. Facial fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, etc. are effective procedures to smooth and even out lines on the face. While they do have a lasting effect, they are far from permanent, and long lasting.

There is an autologous system that is safe and effective which can have the same effect, and can be permanent. It is called the Viafill System, and is naturally integrated into the system, and completely bio-compatible.

The Viafill autologous Fat Transfer system is a autologous. Which means a tissue is grafted  into a new position on the body of the individual from which it was removed. The Viafill System takes fat from the thigh, hip or chest, and harvests or inserts the fat cells into the chin, nose, neck, jaw line, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, brow, upper eyelids, temples, lips, and fills and smooths these areas for the desired results. The Viafill System maximizes the number of live fat cells when they are transplanted, and minimizes the damage to the fat cells during the process of reinjection, and increases the potential for less fat re-absorbtion for longer lasting results.

The procedure takes under a hour, and local anesthesia is injected to the area which the Dr. harvests your fat cells, and you can leave the office when the procedure has been completed much like any injection.
The fat transfer system is a graft that may be permanent based on the number of live cells injected and the ability to establish a blood supply, and there is no need for re-injection much like facial fillers.

As with any surgical procedure, there is potential risk for infection, bleeding, and less than expected beneficial outcome. Because Viafill™ uses the patient’s own tissue, there are no allergic or foreign-body reactions to be concerned about. No skin testing is necessary. The only side effects that may occur are local injection site reactions common to any injection procedure.
