Sclerotherapy coming to Orchid Aesthetics….
If you have spider veins, and are seeking an effective treatment sclerotherapy is the safest and most effective treatment for spider and varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure, and involves the injection of a solution directly into the vein. While you may visit Orchid Aesthetics for a variety of anti-ageing treatments you will be pleased to find out that we are adding schlerotherapy as one of those treatments.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins, and involves the injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed, and the veins are no longer visible.
Sclerotherapy is a common treatment for small (spider veins) and medium size (reticular) veins, and is the preferred over laser for eliminating large spider veins and smaller varicose leg veins. Unlike a laser, the sclerosing solution additionally closes the "feeder veins" under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins in the treated area less likely. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed, and the veins are no longer visible. With this procedure, veins can be dealt with at an early stage, helping to prevent further complications. How many treatments will I need?
You may need anywhere from one to several sclerotherapy sessions for any vein region. Depending on the type and number of veins being treated you may have one to many injections per session.
Sclerotherapy Effectiveness
Studies have shown that as many as 50%-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. Less than 10% of the people who have sclerotherapy do not respond to the injections at all. In these instances, different solutions can be tried. Although this procedure works for most patients, there are no guarantees for success.Candidates for Sclerotherapy
Prior to sclerotherapy, you will have an initial consultation with the physician or schlerotherapist who will decide if you're a good candidate for the procedure. You are not eligible if you are pregnant. You can have sclerotherapy if you take birth control pills. If you have had a blood clot in the past, your eligibility will be decided on an individual basis, and will depend on the overall health of the area needing treatment as well as the reason for the clot.
Veins that are potentially usable for future heart bypass surgery will generally not be considered for sclerotherapy, unless they are already deemed unusable.
Can I resume normal activities after each treatment?
Generally, normal activities can be resumed after sclerotherapy. Medically prescribed support hose and/or bandages may need to be worn for several days to several weeks to assist in resolution of the veins. The procedure, performed in the doctor's office, usually causes only minimal discomfort, and walking is encouraged after the treatment.
Bruising and pigmentation may occur after sclerotherapy. Bruising typically disappears within 1-2 weeks. Although pigmentation almost always fades, it can last for several months.
