Vein treatment

Vein treatment by Sclerotherapy What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical vein treatment used to eliminate varicose and spider veins, and involves the injection of a solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to stick to itself with compression. In response, the veins are reabsorbed, and they are no longer visible.

Vein treatment by sclerotherapy is a common procedure for small and medium size spider veins, and is preferred over laser for eliminating spider veins in excess of 4mm. Unlike a laser, the sclerosing solution additionally closes the “feeder veins” thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins in the treated area less likely. With vein treatment by sclerotherapy, veins can be eliminated at an early stage, helping to prevent further complications.

How many treatments will I need? You may need anywhere from one to several vein treatment by sclerotherapy sessions depending on the type and number of veins being treated. Sclerotherapy Effectiveness Studies have shown that many of the injected veins may be eliminated with each session of vein treatment. Although this procedure works for most patients, there are no guarantees for success. Up to 60% of the veins disappear with only one injection, 40% may need additional injections to clear completely.

Candidates for Sclerotherapy Prior to sclerotherapy, you will have an initial consultation with the physician or vein specialist. You can not have vein treatment by sclerotherapy if you are pregnant or nursing. You can have sclerotherapy if you take birth control pills. If you have had a blood clot in the past, your eligibility will be decided on an individual basis, and will depend on your overall health.

Can I resume normal activities after each vein treatment? Generally, normal activities may be resumed after vein treatment by sclerotherapy or laser. Support hose must be worn for several days to assist in the resolution of the veins. This procedure, performed in the doctor’s office, usually causes only minimal discomfort, and walking is very important and necessary to aid in the elimination of the veins. Bruising and pigmentation may occur after sclerotherapy. Bruising typically disappears within 1-2 weeks. Although pigmentation almost always fades, it can last for several months and it is very important to avoid direct sun light until complete healing.

What medication we use for vein treatment? As sclerosing medication for vein treatment we use STS (sodium tetra deca folate) FDA approved and considered the gold standard therapy for vein treatment.
